In the wake of the global Coronavirus pandemic, people are being told to stay at home and practice ‘social distancing.’ It can be strange being in lockdown and having to change from your usual busy schedule to being indoors all day if you’re accustomed to one that involves plenty of activity.
Whilst actor Stanley Tucci teaches the world how to make cocktails; many people are taking up baking to while away the hours.
If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon, maybe it’s time to consider a new hobby or upskill yourself.
Before you take up a new hobby, you should consider what kind of emotional fulfilment you need? No activity, no matter how enjoyable, will satisfy you if you aren’t doing it because you want to. Think about what emotional fulfilment you need (for example, validation? creativity? purpose?). Then, choose an activity that ties into that.
Why are you choosing this activity? Before you try to figure out what to do, figure out why you’re doing it. What are your motivations behind your choice?
Do you prefer being creative or active? Does escapism appeal to you more than results? If you narrow down your wants, you may find it easier to choose an activity that fits your personality.
What did you enjoy as a child? As a kid, you might have shown an aptitude for something but didn’t have the time to pursue it. Maybe you should revisit it as an adult and see if you still enjoy it?
Whatever hobby or activity you decide to do, make sure you commit to it and have fun while you’re doing it. Who knows, maybe you can turn your new hobby into a business when lockdown is over.
