Jamaican runner Usain Bolt, who was dating Canadian Lubica Slovak, broke up with the fashion designer to focus on winning gold at this summer’s London Olympics reports the Jamaica Star.
Bolt and Slovak dominated social networks last month after a photo of the couple kissing was leaked by the local newspaper the Jamaican Observer. The photo ignited a firestorm of disapproval from Black Jamaicans, bemoaning Black men’s “White woman complex.” He’s even been referred to as the next Tiger Woods.
Slovak grew up in Canada but relocated to Jamaica after reportedly falling in love with the island. She has enjoyed a successful career as a fashion designer on the island, co-owning clothing line Anuna and a Kingston, Jamaica, boutique. The couple were dating for six months before the photos were published.
